Media Blog Topic 2

After watching the video I was like wow. I see those every day to day commercials or advertisements for kids, but it never came to my attention that it was more serious than it seems. It was pretty scary. I could understand why they would use kids to advertise for kiddy toys or etc. Kids are very influential and can be very influenced. Once they come out of their mothers womb, their parents wants to do everything they could possible for them. Not only that, kids can be persuaded too easily. The media knows this and uses it to their advantage. My little 5 year old sister would see something on T.V or in a store and she'll go crazyy nuts because she wants it sooooo badly. Eventually, my parents would give in because they didn't want her to cry or scream continuously. The video said media purposely target at kids because they start wanting and consuming at an early age and hopefully will continue through this media saturation that media is drowning them in. It's crazy. The video showed the part where kids are running down the aisle looking at cereal boxes that has cool media on it to influence the kids to want it. That definitely brought many childhood memories. Man I bet my mom used to hate me. I was like those kids. I would look at the same cereal box, but chooses the one that says COOL TOY INSIDE!

When the video showed the part where kids being obsessed, having ADD, and our generation has a life expectancy shorter than our parents, and other types of disorder. I had to think what would this have to do with media? But then I was like again wowed because media is causing all of this. Like McDonalds. They advertise Mcdonalds like crazy, and kids want to go their to get their happy meal with toys in it or to see Ronald Mcdonald. McDonalds makes you fat. I learned this is health class after watching Supersize me. That movie was horribly disgusting, but yet I don't stop eating it. Why? I don't know? Maybe its media? They even have the redbox at Mcdonalds. It's like Hey! Eat Mcdonalds and enjoy a great 1$ movie. It's not Hey! Eat popcorn and enjoy the movie anymore. Kids are like the media's product to get their word out and then again kids are their consumers. The world is pretty cruel don't you think?
